Kingsbury Green Academy in Calne has issued a statement following the death of a teenager who was fatally stabbed in Chippenham over the weekend.

The school confirmed that the 16-year-old boy, who died from his injuries, was a former student at the academy and remained known to staff and pupils. The school said it was not appropriate to name him and confirmed that the 15-year-old arrested in connection with the incident is not a student at Kingsbury Green Academy.

In a message to parents and carers, the school expressed its condolences to the teenager’s family and friends and acknowledged the impact the news may have on pupils.

Staff were informed on Monday, and Year 11 students - from the same year group as the victim, attended an assembly to offer support through the school’s pastoral and senior leadership teams.

The academy said it has requested specialist support from external agencies and confirmed that the school counsellor will be available for an additional day to support any students who wish to speak with a trained professional.

The statement noted that young people may experience a range of emotions following a death, including sadness, anger, shock or confusion, and reassured families that these reactions are normal. Parents were also signposted to Child Bereavement UK for further guidance.

The school said it understands how upsetting the situation is for the wider community and encouraged families to contact staff if they feel their child needs additional support.

The death follows a stabbing in Chippenham on Saturday afternoon. Wiltshire Police have said a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and remains in custody while enquiries continue.
