A 16-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in Chippenham on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to London Road shortly before 4pm on Saturday, 31st January, where the teenager was found seriously injured. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Police have asked that their privacy is respected at this time.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested shortly after the incident in connection with the stabbing and remains in police custody.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose described the incident as “a tragedy which has resulted in a young man losing his life”.
He added: “We understand the concern that this will have in the local community and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Our enquiries are ongoing.”
Chippenham Town Council released a statement saying; "We are deeply saddened to hear this news, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man who has died following the incident on Saturday."
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around London Road at the time.
