Calne Cricket Club celebrated a spectacular weekend, securing crucial victories in both their first and second team fixtures against local rivals Devizes, with outstanding performances from their up-and-coming young players.

The first team travelled to Devizes, who sat second in the league, and showcased dominance from the outset. In a bold move, the team fielded two Under-15 stars, Ed Barwell and Will Hardie, who immediately proved their worth. Barwell, making his first-team debut, impressed by taking 2 crucial wickets, while Hardie chipped in with another.

Senior bowler Darren Holcombe further bolstered the attack, claiming 3 wickets as Devizes were bowled out for a manageable 144.

Calne's chase was anchored by a solid half-century from captain Sean Adams. Support came from James Gladding, who remained unbeaten on 30, and Matt Richards, with a valuable 22, ensuring Calne secured their first win in four matches.

Meanwhile, Calne 2nd XI were also locked in a derby battle with Devizes 2nd XI. With regular captain Doel on holiday, Powell stepped up to lead the side and expertly guided them to victory.

Devizes set a target of 212 from their 45 overs. Another Under-15 player, Ben Taliadouros, shone with the ball, taking 3 wickets. The chase began promisingly with Pete Ross providing a strong start, eventually falling for 41.

However, it was Paul Hiscock who seized control of the game, delivering an unbeaten 51 to secure a vital victory for the 2nd XI.

The 3rd XI faced a tougher challenge against league favorites Bishops Cannings 2nd XI. Bishops Cannings posted a formidable 319 from their 40 overs. Despite a valiant effort, the chase proved too steep for Calne's 3rd XI, although a commendable 63 from Rob helped them reach 133.

Overall, the weekend was a resounding success for Calne Cricket Club, highlighting both the strength of their senior players and the exciting potential of their young stars.
