Week 2 of the cricket season proved to be a challenging one for Calne Cricket Club, with three of its teams losing their 100% records.
Despite the setbacks, individual performances and valuable points were secured across the divisions.
The 1st XI faced a tough away match against Warminster, a strong contender for the Division 1 title following their relegation last year. Despite the loss, Calne managed to salvage 9.5 points, bolstered by a solid 42 from Matt Richards and contributions from Darren Holcombe with the ball.
This weekend, the 1st XI returns home for a highly anticipated local derby against Devizes.
The 2nd XI also suffered a defeat, falling to local rivals Chippenham 4's. Captain Doel's half-century and a resilient 35 from young Harry Edes helped Calne post a total of 210. While father-daughter duo Powell each claimed a couple of wickets, it wasn't enough to prevent Chippenham from reaching their target with 5 wickets remaining.
The 2nd XI will look to bounce back this weekend in another derby match, as they travel to face Devizes 2's.
The 3rd XI, playing their first game of the season, encountered a formidable Goatacre 4's team. A slow start with the bat was rescued by a valuable unbeaten 44 from young Josh Gladding, helping Calne to a competitive 170-9 off 40 overs. Unfortunately, Goatacre proved too strong, reaching their target with 6 wickets in hand.
The 3rd XI will be hoping for a better result as they travel to face Bishops Cannings 2's this weekend.
The sole bright spot of the week came from the 4th XI, who continued their winning streak. Dave Mundy's side travelled to Westbury 4's and secured a 4-wicket victory, building on their opening weekend success. After putting Westbury into bat, they restricted them to 184-6, with debutant Lawrence Brill impressing with figures of 3-33. Andy Driver (49) and vice-captain Jase (53*) led the charge in the run chase, ensuring the 4th XI maintained their 100% record.
