Week 7 of the cricket season proved to be a mixed bag for Calne Cricket Club, with one impressive victory and another match unfortunately rained off.

The persistent damp weather presented challenges across the board, forcing teams to battle not only their opponents but also the elements.

The First XI provided a bright spot, hosting Malmesbury in a crucial mid-table clash. Facing a shortage of experienced players, the team boldly introduced 15-year-olds Harry Edes and Will Hardie to the First XI, a move that paid off handsomely.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Calne witnessed a stellar performance from their young debutants. Edes and Hardie combined to take 5 wickets, supported by tight fielding, restricting Malmesbury to a total of 161 from their allotted 45 overs.

Afternoon showers led to a revised target of 135 from 33 overs for Calne. Demonstrating resilience and skill, the team successfully reached the target with 6 wickets to spare, securing a valuable win and propelling them to 4th place in the league.

This Saturday, the First XI will travel to face their neighbours, Chippenham, in what promises to be a competitive match.

The Second XI faced Malmesbury's Second XI, aiming for their third consecutive victory. Bowling first, Calne again saw youth excel, with 15-year-old Ed Barwell claiming 4 wickets and 19-year-old Millie Powell taking 3. Their combined efforts helped restrict Malmesbury to 195-9 after 41 overs, but rain played a crucial role. The Duckworth-Lewis method adjusted Calne's target to 201 from 41 overs.

Despite several players getting starts, a series of quick dismissals saw Calne bowled out for 120.

The Second XI will look to bounce back this Saturday as they welcome Bradford on Avon to Calne.

The Third XI hosted Chippenham 5's at Beversbrook, where the rain once again played a significant role. Jim Sutton's 3 wickets helped Calne, but Chippenham still managed to post a competitive total of 211-7.

With the rain impacting the game, Calne needed to reach 152 off 28 overs to secure the win. Unfortunately, they finished on 120-6, meaning they will head to Swindon Titans this weekend in search of their first victory.

The Fourth XI's away game against Chippenham was unfortunately abandoned due to persistent rain. Calne was in a promising position when the downpour began. Nevertheless, they were able to pick up some points for the wickets they had taken.

They look to capitalise this Saturday when they welcome Bradford on Avon 3's to Calne.
