Week 4 of the Wiltshire cricket season brought mixed fortunes for Calne Cricket Club's senior sides, with two wins and two losses highlighting the club's ongoing development and competitiveness.
The 1st XI, led by Sean Adams, bounced back in style with a decisive away victory against Swindon 2's at the Swindon County Ground.
After a strong bowling performance, spearheaded by Darren Holcombe and Jamie Ealey, Calne restricted Swindon to 168 from their allotted 45 overs. Consistent contributions with the ball from the entire Calne bowling attack, coupled with sharp fielding, proved crucial.
While wickets fell at regular intervals in the Calne innings, a match-winning partnership between Darren Holcombe and Matt Richards secured the win.
The team looks to continue their momentum as they host Burbage & Royal Easton this weekend.
Calne 2's also secured a much-needed victory after two previous defeats, defeating top-of-the-league Burbage 3's at the Brook.
After being put into bat, Calne posted a total of 172, with Pacey Godwin shining with a fantastic 47. Despite feeling the score might have been slightly short, a superb bowling and fielding display ensured a Calne victory.
Will Hardie impressed with 3-19, and Chairman Chris Edes contributed with 2-15, as they bowled out Burbage for just 103.
The 2's will travel to Box 2's this weekend, aiming to build on this success.
Unfortunately, the 3rd XI, captained by Angelo, are still searching for their first win of the season. They hosted a friendly Bathford side at Beversbrook.
Calne batted first, posting 155 all out, thanks to a fantastic first senior half-century for Ed Barwell and a solid 30 from Andrew Driver.
Despite a couple of wickets from Millie Powell and Jim Sutton, Bathford reached their target with 5 wickets remaining.
The 3's will be at home again this weekend, welcoming Corsham 4's.
Dave Mundy's 4th XI, previously sitting at the top of the league, saw their 100% record come to an end against Winsley 4's in Bath.
Winsley posted 168-5 from their 40 overs. A rare batting collapse for Calne saw them all out for 106. Notable performances came from Alfie Marshall with 30 not out and Jonathan Sawbridge, who scored 29.
The 4's will travel to Royal Wootton Bassett 4's this weekend, eager to return to winning ways.
