Week 3 of the cricket season brought a mixed bag of results for Calne Cricket Club, with frustration continuing for the first XI despite spirited performances across all teams.

The First XI hosted local rivals Devizes in a tightly contested match that ultimately went against them. Devizes set a challenging target, scoring 271 all out.

Calne fought hard in their chase, reaching 225 and securing maximum batting and bowling points, but ultimately fell short.  A standout innings of 65 from James Gladding provided a highlight for the Calne side.

The First XI will be looking to bounce back as they travel to Swindon this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Second XI faced Devizes' 2nd XI away from home. A solid 33 from Sam Liles helped Calne post a score of 160.

However, Devizes managed to chase down the target with 3 wickets to spare. Gareth Powell’s impressive bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets, earned him the Man of the Match award for Calne.

The Second XI will host Burbage at home this weekend.

Calne Third XI faced a tough challenge against Division 9 promotion favourites, Bishops Cannings 2nd XI.

Calne controlled much of the game, bowling the hosts out for a manageable 147. A well-played 46 from Phil Barwell put Calne in a strong position for their first victory of the season, but a late collapse saw them all out for 116.

The Third XI will welcome Bathford to Beversbrook on Saturday.

The Fourth XI continued their winning streak, maintaining a 100% record with a victory over Shrivenham 2nd XI. Shrivenham posted 170 for 7 in their 40 overs, setting Calne a challenging target.

Vice-captain Jase stepped up with an unbeaten 79, leading Dave Mundy’s side to victory and propelling them to the top of the league in these early stages.

The Fourth XI will travel to Winsley this weekend.
