Wiltshire Council is urging residents to back a growing “reuse” initiative that is already making a big impact on waste reduction.

Kennet Furniture Refurbiz (KFR), in partnership with Wiltshire Council and FCC Environment, opened a Reuse Shop on Hopton Industrial Estate in Devizes in February 2025. The shop accepts a wide range of donated goods from FCC recycling centres, including small household items and ornaments.

Since launching, the store has given a second life to around 1,850 items  - more than 21 tonnes of material - that would otherwise have ended up at Wiltshire’s Household Recycling Centres.

The shop refurbishes and resells goods ranging from furniture to household essentials, offering affordable and often unique finds for local shoppers.

To keep the success going, the council is encouraging people to continue donating quality, reusable items.

Reuse donation points at recycling centres are marked by orange bicycles, and staff are on hand to help with any queries.

Cllr Paul Sample JP, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste, said: "This initiative is a great example of what can be achieved when we work with communities and partner organisations to reduce waste.

"By keeping useful items in circulation, we cut emissions, lower costs for residents, and reduce the amount of material taken to household recycling centres that goes to landfill.

"So whether it's a chair, lamp or ornament, we'd encourage everyone to think reuse first — and donate it at one of our household recycling centres. And if you're looking for something unique or affordable, pay a visit to the shop and pick up a bargain on bric-a-brac or white goods the next time you're in Devizes."
