A man has been found guilty of historic child sex offences following a trial at Swindon Crown Court.
Stefon Winter, 73, formerly of Goatacre, near Calne, was convicted on 2nd July 2025 of two counts of buggery and three counts of indecent assault involving a 13-year-old boy. The offences took place between 1987 and 1989, during a period when the victim was employed by Winter.
The court heard harrowing evidence relating to multiple incidents of abuse over a two-year period.
Winter is due to be sentenced on 31st July, when he will also be sentenced for a separate conviction for two counts of digital penetration involving a five-year-old child in the late 1980s. He was found guilty of those offences in 2023 and had been remanded in custody pending the outcome of the more recent trial.
Following the verdict, Detective Constable Chris McLoughlin praised the courage of the victim in coming forward.
“This case is an important reminder that justice can still be served years after any abuse,” he said. “I can assure any victim contemplating whether or not to come forward that a delay in reporting does not mean you will not be listened to or believed.”
“Our specialist officers will support you through the process, no matter how long ago the crime took place. I hope this outcome demonstrates that it is never too late to speak out.”
DC McLoughlin commended the victim’s bravery, calling it “immense.”
“He has shown incredible strength, character and resilience and should be proud of how he has conducted himself throughout the investigation,” he added. “It is thanks to his bravery that Stefon Winter will now face justice, making our communities a safer place.”
Wiltshire Police continue to encourage anyone who has experienced or witnessed abuse—recent or non-recent—to report it.
