With a ban on single-use vapes coming in to effect on 1st June, 2025, Wiltshire Council is urging residents who use disposable vapes to prepare for the change.

The ban, covering England, Scotland, and Wales, is part of environmental legislation aiming to reduce waste and promote more sustainable vaping options.

After 1st June, only reusable vapes – those that can be recharged and refilled – will be legally available for sale.

While acknowledging the role vapes play in helping adults quit smoking, Wiltshire Council is also actively working to enforce regulations against the illegal sale of vapes, particularly to minors.

"While we support the ban on disposable vapes to protect the environment and to prevent children and young people from using them, we need to ensure that adult smokers who are looking to quit smoking will still have a full range of effective options to help them to stop smoking tobacco," said Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health for Wiltshire.

The ban doesn't apply to all vapes, and adults using them as a smoking cessation tool will still have access to a variety of reusable and refillable options. The council also highlight the cost-effectiveness of switching to reusable vapes. "For people still using disposable vapes now, buying a refillable device instead could save you money within weeks as many of them are now available for less than half the cost of a packet of cigarettes," stated Cllr. Care Cape, Cabinet Member for Public Health.

Wiltshire Council offers free, personalised support and a range of quitting aids through its Smokefree Wiltshire service, including rechargeable vapes, nicotine replacement therapy, and stop-smoking medication. They encourage residents to take advantage of these resources. Those looking for advice on quitting smoking or transitioning from disposable to reusable vapes can contact the Health Coach team at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/smokefree.

The Smoke Free app is also available free of charge to Wiltshire residents.
