Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet will meet on Tuesday 20th January to consider a new county-wide Parking Plan and a possible shake-up of parking charges.

The Parking Plan 2026–2030 sets out how the council wants to manage parking over the next few years. It promises a “modern, inclusive, and financially sustainable” approach, balancing accessibility, sustainability, and economic growth.

Among the key proposals are reducing underused car parks, exploring opportunities for electric vehicle charging, updating resident permits and event parking rules, and improving technology with mobile apps, cash payments, and better signage.

The Cabinet will also consider a review of parking tariffs across the county.

The proposals include increasing on-street and off-street tariffs, extending chargeable hours to 7am - 7pm, aligning Sunday rates with weekdays and adjusting permit fees. Any changes would go out for public consultation in the spring.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding, said: “Our Parking Plan is about creating a fair and sustainable parking system that works for everyone  - residents, businesses, and visitors. It will help us make the most of council assets, improve the parking experience, and provide stronger enforcement in rural areas and around schools. Modernising our approach and reviewing charges will also support local economies, encourage greener travel, and fund vital transport services.”

The Cabinet meeting will take place on Tuesday 20th January. Full details of the proposals are available on Wiltshire Council’s Agenda – Democratic Services website.
