White Horse Housing Association, which provides more than 460 affordable homes across Wiltshire, Swindon and Somerset, is looking for new board members to help lead the organisation into its next decade.

The not-for-profit housing association, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, has built homes in 55 villages across the region, focusing on providing high-quality, affordable housing in rural communities.

Chief Executive Steve Warran said the organisation is preparing for the future as several long-serving board members approach the end of their nine-year terms. “We’ve been very fortunate to have some fantastic board members who’ve brought a great deal to White Horse and helped us develop into the successful organisation we are today,” he said. “Now we are looking for the next generation, who will be leading us into the next decade.”

Mr Warran said that while experience in business or housing would be helpful, the association is keen to attract people from a range of backgrounds. “Clearly, housing skills and housing experience are good, but some of the most effective board members we’ve had in my time have come from other sectors,” he said. “They bring a fresh perspective and challenge our thinking, which can inspire us to re-evaluate why we do things the way we do.”

Board members attend around seven meetings a year - usually held on Monday afternoons - and play a key role in shaping long-term strategy, ensuring homes remain safe, affordable and sustainable.

White Horse Housing currently holds a 96 per cent resident satisfaction rating, and Mr Warran said board members are central to maintaining that high standard.

“Joining our board gives people the opportunity to directly influence decisions that improve lives and strengthen local communities,” he said.

The association is particularly interested in hearing from applicants with experience in HR or change management, as it begins planning for how the organisation will evolve over the next decade.
