Here is a run down of upcoming road works and closures in and around the Calne area which could impact on your travel times.

A4 London Road in Calne closure from 11th September to 22nd September
 for resurfacing work.

The closure will be in place from the roundabout with the A3102 Silver Street to the junction with Lake View.

Wiltshire Council have said that in order to minimise disruption, particularly for nearby schools, the works have been scheduled to take place from 9am-3.30pm and are being completed in phases.

However, people wishing to access schools in the area may still need to take an alternative route and access the school gates from another direction.

On the first day of the work, Monday 11 September, the council will remove the existing surface between Stockley Lane and Holy Trinity school, and people should access schools from the western, A3012 end of closure. On days two and three, the existing surface between the school and junction with the A3102 Silver Street will be removed, and people should access from eastern end of the closure.

Then, on days four and five, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 September, the council will be laying the new surface between Holy Trinity and the junction with A3102 Silver Street, with access from the eastern end. On day six, Monday 18 September, the council will be laying new surface between Stockley Lane and Holy Trinity, with access from west.

For the rest of the work, from Tuesday 19 to Friday 22 September, the council will be adjusting ironworks and painting road markings, and while the road will be closed to through traffic during this time, access will be maintained where possible. There will be a small period of time where hot material is being laid directly at the school gates, and there will be no access, but this will take place in the middle of the day to avoid school pick-up times.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this resurfacing, but this is essential work to maintain this important route through Calne.

"We know that people will ask why this work didn't take place during the school holidays, but unfortunately we can't do all required work around the county during the summer break, and there is never a good time to close a road for resurfacing. This work needs to be done now, as if we delayed it, there would be further disruption in the future.

"We are starting the work a week after the schools go back to enable people to make any required adjustments to their journeys. We are also doing all we can to minimise disruption by completing the two-week work in phases to enable access to the local schools, though people may need to change their usual route. School buses will have access throughout.

"We're committed to having well-connected communities here in Wiltshire, and that's why we're investing in resurfacing programmes around the county."
