MOTORISTS will be relieved to hear that Oxford Road in Calne is set to reopen this evening, ahead of the planned closure of the A3102.
Cllr Sam Pearce-Kearney has spoken to contractors and has confirmed that Oxford Road will reopen by 6.30pm this evening, following further progress at the Lidl roadworks site. Contractors have been carrying out final works, including painting new road markings and reconfiguring the area to allow three-way temporary traffic lights.
The update comes after residents raised concerns that traffic arrangements had remained unchanged since Friday. Cllr Pearce-Kearney said he had been in contact with those affected and welcomed the latest confirmation on reopening times.
Wiltshire Council crews have also been on site installing new diversion signage, which will come into effect from Monday morning. Traffic will be directed via Oxford Road rather than Beversbrook Road while council works take place.
Under the revised arrangements:
-
Drivers travelling towards Royal Wootton Bassett are advised to use Oxford Road
-
Access to Tesco will be via Oxford Road
-
Beversbrook Road will be closed from the Tesco junction through to Stainer Road
-
Vehicles on Stainer Road will be able to turn left towards Chippenham
Cllr Pearce-Kearney said traffic conditions would continue to be monitored as the new layout comes into operation, with further updates expected if required.
The A3102 closure will still go ahead as planned.
