UPDATE - As of 24th November this closure will no longer be going ahead - please find full details in follow up article under this heading.
A five-month closure of the A342 between Derry Hill and Studley is set to begin in January 2026 while Wessex Water carries out mains replacement works.
Wiltshire Council has confirmed that the road will shut from 12th January between the A4 junction and the junction with the C155 (Wans House). The closure is expected to remain in place until 26th June, although the council says the duration may change depending on weather conditions.
A signed diversion will send drivers via the A3102 and A4. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained “where possible”, but delays are likely due to the scale of the works.
The closure has been authorised under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Wessex Water is replacing sections of its network and carrying out associated works.
