THERE will be further inevitable traffic delays through Calne in September as scheduled works are due to take place on the A3102 Silver Street - the road leading up to Kingsbury Green Academy.

Temporary two-way traffic lights and a temporary signal-controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossing will be in place while works are undertaken by Wiltshire Council to  refurbish the 'Toucan' pedestrian and cyclist shared crossing on the A3102 Silver Street.

The works will commence on 23rd September and are expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

Roadside vegetation clearance will also be carried out during the works so that the new signal and crossing infrastructure can be installed and the railings will be replaced with bollards to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Cllr Nick Holder, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "We have an extensive stock of traffic signals across our highways network, and it is important we undertake regular refurbishments when assets are nearing the end of their designed lifespan to ensure they continue to work correctly. It is also an opportunity to upgrade the technology used to increase efficiency.

"Works of this nature inevitably result in some disruption. However, we have designed these works to minimise disruption, with temporary two-way signals in place so that the road can remain open. We would like to thank people in advance for their patience while we carry out these essential works, which we aim to complete in a timely manner."
