Motorists in and around Chippenham are advised to plan ahead as overnight closures are set to begin on the A350 bypass tonight, 18th June, and will continue for the next 10 days.

The closures, which will be in effect from 8:00pm to 6:00am, are part of a larger project to eventually dual the A350 as it passes the town.

The significant roadworks project is primarily funded by the government, contributing £26.6 million towards the total cost of £32.3 million.  The A350 serves as a crucial primary freight route connecting to the south coast, making the improvements vital for economic activity.

Contractors MJ Church have already initiated lane closures during peak hours at the busy Bumpers Farm roundabout.

The construction aims to enhance the road's capacity and improve traffic flow. "Drivers should anticipate diversions and increased travel times during the overnight closures," a spokesperson for MJ Church stated. "Clearly signposted diversion routes will be in place to guide motorists around the affected areas."

MJ Church clarified that the overnight closures are necessary to install narrower lanes, ensuring the safety of their workforce during the construction phase.

Residents and commuters are urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to stay informed about traffic updates throughout the duration of the works.
