The short-stay car park at Chippenham Railway Station has reopened, nearly nine months after it was closed to allow major regeneration work on the station forecourt.
The area has been shut since March, apart from short periods when it was used by buses and taxis. During the closure, short-stay spaces were temporarily moved to the station’s long-stay car park.
The forecourt project, led by Great Western Railway, has included improvements to the short-stay area and wider changes to the station entrance. These include new bus shelters, a wider bus loop to ease vehicle movements, and new planters and seating.
A new 200-space cycle hub with CCTV has also been built next to the long-stay car park. Although the structure is in place, it had not yet opened at the time of writing and remains fenced off.
GWR said the upgrades are intended to improve how passengers move around the station and to support better links with the town centre.
A spokesperson said: “Chippenham is a really important station for both residents and visitors and we are delighted to work with Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership; Wiltshire Council, and Network Rail to deliver further improvements.”
