A planning application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council by Tesco to convert a unit within the former Wilko store in Chippenham High Street.

In January, Tesco announced they would be closing their store in Emery Gate, Chippenham and relocating to smaller premises on Chippenham High Street.

The store has been in the Emery Gate shopping centre for 15 years, having signed a lease in 2008, but  bosses said they'd taken the 'difficult decision' to move to a smaller unit on the High Street and open as a Tesco Express.

At the time a spokesperson for Tesco said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Chippenham Superstore.
“We have however secured a new smaller premises in Chippenham town centre which we will open as Tesco Chippenham High Street Express, and we look forward to continuing to serve our customers at our local stores.”

The former Wilko unit on Chippenham High Street, has been split into three vacant units and the plans submitted by Tesco is for one of those units  - plans include an ATM with light and camera installed alongside an internally illuminated projecting sign over the windows, advertising the shop.
