A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the death of a 16-year-old in Chippenham.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that the teenager has been charged in connection with the death of Shayne Hambakachere, who was found seriously injured in London Road shortly before 4pm on Saturday 31st January.

Shayne, a pupil at Hardenhuish School, later died from his injuries.

The suspect, a 15-year-old white British boy, was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He was later re-arrested on suspicion of murder and has now been formally charged.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains in custody and is due to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 4 February.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police said they were offering their “sincere condolences” to Shayne’s family and friends and thanked the Chippenham community for its support following the incident.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
