Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 80s died following a collision on the A361 Caen Hill yesterday evening (14th November).

Emergency services were called at 6.13pm after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by vehicles on the carriageway near Mayenne Place. Despite the efforts of responders, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and police say their thoughts are with her family.

One of the vehicles involved stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries. No arrests have been made.

However, police believe other vehicles may also have been involved but left the area, potentially without realising they had struck someone. Officers are urging those drivers to come forward as soon as possible.

The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene and is expected to reopen shortly.

Sergeant James Barrett, from the Roads Policing Unit, described the incident as “tragic” and appealed for information from anyone who was travelling along Caen Hill around the time of the collision.

“While one vehicle stopped at the scene, it’s believed that other unknown vehicles may have been involved and we are really keen to speak with any drivers who were passing Caen Hill at that time, and thought they may have struck an object in the road,” he said.

Officers are also asking for any witnesses or motorists with dash cam footage to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597, quoting log number 282 (14/11), or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
