CHIPPENHAM Police have released an appeal following a disturbing incident that happened near Woodlands Road yesterday afternoon.
In a widely shared social media post today, details have been shared by a mother about an incident involving her 12-year-old son who was walking home from secondary school along the Woodlands Road area, near Caterbury Street and Downing Street in Chippenham at about 3.20pm on 29th January.
The post mentions that a man approached the boy and attempted to grab him and take him to a car parked on the corner of Downing Street with the engine running. The car is described as a charcoal grey Mercedes.
An appeal issued today by Chippenham police asks for anyone who saw a person described as being in his 30s, about 6ft tall, medium build, mixed race to get in touch. He is thought to have been wearing denim shorts, a black hoodie and a black facemask.
If you have dash cam footage or saw what took place, please call on 101 quoting log 204 of yesterday’s date (29/01).
In response to the incident, Kingsbury Green Academy in Calne have issued the following words to parents today: "We are aware of reports of a serious incident that occurred yesterday evening In Chippenham regarding a young person walking home and someone attempting to take them into a waiting vehicle. Police are investigating and whilst we are unaware of any similar incidents occurring in Calne, we would like to remind parents and students that they should remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times on their journeys to and from school. We would encourage those that walk home to do so in groups and to ensure that they take appropriate precautions such as walking main well-lit routes and avoiding short-cuts."
