Parking charges across Wiltshire could increase later this year after the county council approved a new four-year Parking Plan.
Wiltshire Council’s cabinet has signed off the Parking Plan 2026–2030, alongside proposals to review and increase parking tariffs across the county, including extending chargeable hours and aligning Sunday charges with weekday rates.
Under the proposals, on-street and off-street parking charges would rise, chargeable hours would be extended to 7am–7pm, and permit fees would increase in line with the new tariffs. Sunday on-street charges would also be reintroduced in Salisbury.
Parking tariffs in Wiltshire have not changed since 2022, but the council says rising costs mean increases are now being considered. A public consultation on the proposed changes is due to begin in the spring.
If approved following consultation, the first round of changes would be introduced later this year, with a further adjustment planned for 2028.
The Parking Plan also outlines longer-term changes to how parking is managed, including reviewing underused car parks, updating resident permit and event parking policies, and introducing regular reviews of charges every two years. The council also plans to improve payment options, signage and enforcement.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, Streetscene and Flooding, said the plan was intended to create a “modern, inclusive and sustainable parking service” and argued that reviewing tariffs would help keep the service financially viable.
He added that income from parking helps fund transport services, including rural bus routes.
Residents and businesses will have the opportunity to comment when the consultation opens in the spring.
