DEVIZES POLICE cordoned Reeves Road this morning because the man who climbed onto the roof of Green Lane Hospital yesterday, had climbed onto another building in the nearby housing estate.
A patient at the hospital, operated by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust climbed onto the hospital roof yesterday morning, 11th June, prompting a large emergency service response.
The man in his 20's jumped off the roof of the hospital just after 5am this morning, into a neighbouring field and moved to the estate where he climbed up onto the roof of a residential property.
A statement released by Devizes Police on social media this morning said: “Please be aware that we have cordoned off Reeves Road, Devizes, following a development in the Green Lane Hospital incident.
“Shortly after 5am this morning (12/06), the man, aged in his 20s, jumped off the roof of a building at the hospital and into a neighbouring field, and then made his way into a local housing estate, where he has climbed onto the roof of a residential house.
“We have set up a cordon on the street and are continuing to negotiate with the man.
“We appreciate this development will be concerning for local residents. Please be assured that the situation is being managed and residents are able to come and go from their properties.
“If you have any concerns then please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our officers.”
However, just after 12pm today, 12th June, Devizes Police have released a statment to say the man has been safely recovered. A spokesperson for the force said: "We are pleased to report that the incident involving a patient from Green Lane Hospital has now been resolved safely. Thank you for your patience while this was dealt with."
