A man has been remanded in custody following a police pursuit that left a teenage girl seriously injured.

Patrick McCann, 34, of Walnut Avenue, Hillingdon, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 3rd February charged with failing to stop a vehicle when required by a police officer, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, escaping from lawful custody, breaching a court order and taking a vehicle without consent.

The charges relate to an incident on Sunday, 1st February, when officers spotted a suspected stolen vehicle in Chippenham. A pursuit followed, travelling towards Lacock, before the vehicle collided with a Volkswagen Transporter on the A350.

One of the occupants of the Transporter, a 14-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Southmead Hospital, where she remains in hospital.

No pleas were entered and McCann was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 6th March.
