A 34-year-old man is in police custody following a dramatic series of events that unfolded late last night, resulting in multiple charges against him.

At around 10pm on 6th January, officers from the Roads Policing unit attempted to pull over a grey Hyundai on the A350 at Chippenham resulting in a pursuit.

As the situation escalated, the dogs unit was called in to assist, deploying a stinger device designed to puncture the vehicle’s tyres. With the added support from an armed response vehicle, the Hyundai was stopped just before it could enter the M4 on an exit slip road.

The driver was promptly arrested on suspicion of several offences, including failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, aggravated taking a vehicle without consent, and drug driving.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a quantity of white powder, leading to an additional charge of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The suspect remains in custody as police continue their investigation and questioning.
