A notice of election has been published for Wiltshire today, 11th March 2025, and the county now enters its pre-election period or purdah - meaning the way in which the council communicates to the public must be politically impartial throughout this time.
On Thursday 1st May 2025, elections will take place for 98 Unitary Wiltshire Councillors and across the Parish and Town Councils in Wiltshire.
Nominations for prospective councillors opens at 10.00am tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th March. Papers must be hand-delivered to the council offices in Trowbridge, Chippenham, or Salisbury depending on which seat you are standing for - the council is encouraging everyone submitting nomination papers to book an appointment to do so. Early submissions of nomination papers gives plenty of time to rectify any minor errors before the deadline for applications . The deadline is 2nd April at 4pm.
Candidates can stand as independent members or can contact the local party branch if they wish to stand for a political party. No formal qualifications are needed to be a councillor, the post is open to anyone wishing to engage with their communities and represent them during council meetings.
Meanwhile, the deadline to register to vote in the forthcoming elections is 11th April at midnight.
