IF your dashcam catches footage of road offenders send it to the police as soon as possible - that is the message from Wiltshire Police following the successful prosecution of a Porsche driver who was captured speeding through a red light last year.

David Mayne, 46, of Upper Seagry in Chippenham was caught on the dashcam of an off-duty officer, driving his Porsche Cayman at speed through a red light at the junction of Bath Road and Cross Keys Road just after 7pm on 7th September 2023.

He was sentenced for driving without due care and attention and near the A4 through Corsham and appeared in court last week where he pleaded guilty to the offence. Mayne was ordered to pay £2,185 in fines and court costs and received 6 penalty points.

SGT Bott, from Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “This offender was brought to justice thanks to a quick-thinking off-duty officer who sent us a video clip of Mayne’s careless driving.

“If you capture someone driving in a manner that puts other road users at risk, we will inform the registered keeper of our intention to prosecute the driver and work with the Crown Prosecution Service to convict them.

“This notice must be served within 14 days of the offence so please do not delay in sending us your footage.”

If you catch a crime on dashcam, save the clip with a file neame that includes the location, date and time. You can then upload the clip to the National Dashcam Safety Portal.
