THE Chippenham Sea Cadets have released an urgent appeal for donations towards their recovery fund after the unit they use in Chippenham was completely destroyed and rendered unusable by the flooding earlier this week.

In a heartfelt statement, the Chippenham Sea Cadets have announced that their unit has been severely impacted by the recent extreme flooding that has swept through the area.

The organisation, which has been a cornerstone of youth development in the community for nearly 80 years, is facing unprecedented challenges as they work to recover from the disaster.

The flooding has affected every single building, resulting in the loss of uniforms, vital equipment, and essential resources.

Each week, the unit hosts around 50 young people, helping to shape their lives through nautical adventure and fun. The widespread damage means that not only are the Sea Cadets suffering, but other community groups that utilise the site are also feeling the impact.

“This is a devastating blow to our unit and the young people we serve,” said a spokesperson for Chippenham Sea Cadets.

“However, we refuse to give up on our mission. We urgently need the support of our community to begin the extensive clean-up and restoration efforts required to make our site safe again.”

As an independent charity, the Sea Cadets rely heavily on donations to continue their operations. The organisation is calling on the public for help in replacing vital equipment, from chairs and tables to tools for STEM and cooking activities.

The funds raised will be critical in drying out and cleaning the site, allowing the unit to rebuild and continue its important work with young people.

“We know that the road ahead is overwhelming,” the spokesperson continued. “But with your support, we can return to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our cadets, where they can learn new skills, forge lasting friendships, and prepare for life.”

The Chippenham Sea Cadets are appealing to anyone who can help to donate to their recovery fund and encourage community members to share their appeal with friends, family, and colleagues to maximise awareness and support.

Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring them closer to restoring their unit and continuing their mission for our young people.
