A 20-year-old man from Chippenham has been sentenced to four years in prison for the rape of a teenager, following a trial that concluded with a guilty verdict in October 2024.

Ethan Baily, of Hill Rise, received his sentence at Swindon Crown Court on Friday 14th February.

The crime took place on 14th October 2021, when Baily, then aged 17, assaulted a 14-year-old girl during a night out along a footpath adjacent to a local golf course leading to Monkton Park.

The court heard harrowing details of the incident, which left the victim traumatised and vulnerable. In addition to the prison sentence, Baily has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and has been issued a lifetime restraining order preventing any contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Sam Long said: "This was a cowardly and despicable act committed against a young, vulnerable teenage girl. She was violated in the worst possibly way and was unable to defend herself.

"The victim displayed enormous courage and resilience, which led to Ethan Baily's successful conviction by a unanimous jury. Baily showed no remorse for his actions during the court case.

"I hope today’s sentencing sends out a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated, victims will be supported, and offenders will be brought to justice.

“I'd urge anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to report it to us. We will help you and continue to put perpetrators before the courts."
