A 44-year-old man from Chippenham has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison for burglary and assaulting an emergency worker.

Dean Cochrane, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the offences at Swindon Magistrates' Court on 3rd May.

Cochrane broke into The Bridge House just before 3:30 am on 2nd May and stole bottles of alcohol.

When officers attempted to arrest him, Cochrane resisted, trying to punch the officer and kicking them in the hand and arm, causing bruising and swelling.

In addition to his prison sentence, Cochrane was ordered to pay a surcharge of £154, costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and victim compensation of £75.

A second suspect, Sean Penny, also pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced on 28th May.
