A much-loved Calne dog walking business is celebrating after being named a finalist in the Animal Star Awards 2025.
One Girl & Her Dogs, run by local resident Sophie Shine, has been shortlisted for Dog Services of the Year at the prestigious awards, which shine a light on those making a difference in the world of animal care.
Sophie launched the business in 2018 with just a couple of local pups, driven by her dream of spending her days surrounded by dogs. Since then, it has grown steadily into a trusted service for families across Calne and the surrounding area, providing daily walks, home visits, overnight pet sitting, and tailored care for dogs of all shapes and sizes.
“I started One Girl & Her Dogs with the simple dream of spending my days doing what I love most — being surrounded by dogs,” Sophie said. “What began as just me and a couple of local pups has grown into a close-knit community of dogs and owners that I feel so lucky to be part of.”
Having a dog of her own, Sophie understands the trust that families place in her. “I know how important it is to have someone you can truly rely on to look after your pets. Building that trust was one of my biggest goals when I started out, and I still treat every dog like part of my extended family. I take huge pride in giving them the care, fun, and adventures they deserve.”
Her recognition in the Animal Star Awards has been welcomed by clients locally, many of whom have seen her business grow alongside their own dogs. “Being recognised on a regional level feels incredibly special, but I couldn’t have reached this point without my amazing clients and their dogs — their constant support means everything to me,” Sophie added.
The Animal Star Awards winners will be announced later this month, but for Sophie, the shortlisting is already a proud milestone — and a moment to celebrate with the community that helped her reach it.
