Emergency services were called to the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes, yesterday at around 7pm (30/05) following reports of a body in the water.
Cordons were put up along parts of the canal towpath while emergency services worked at the scene.
Tragically, police have confirmed this morning that a deceased man, believed to be in his 40s, was recovered from the canal.
While formal identification is yet to be carried out, police have informed the man's family.
"Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time," a police spokesperson stated.
At this time, police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
