Dog owners in Calne and across Wiltshire now have a new reason to get tails wagging, with the launch of the Wiltshire Dog Friendly Directory. This free initiative from Wiltshire Council aims to make the county a more welcoming place for dogs and their owners, helping four-legged friends feel at home while out and about.

Local cafés, shops, attractions, and even accommodation providers that welcome dogs will display a distinctive paw print sticker, making it easy for owners to spot pet-friendly venues. For dogs, it’s a chance for social interaction and mental stimulation, and for owners, it’s an opportunity to enjoy outings without leaving pets behind.

Cllr Paul Sample, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste, and proud owner of six-year-old Japanese Chin Cross, Fergus, said: "Dogs have always been part of my personal life since I lived on a farm at Sherston in the 1960s. I know that dogs are part of the family for many people in Wiltshire. This scheme is a fantastic way to support their wellbeing and boost local businesses.

"The Dog Friendly Directory is about more than convenience. It is about creating a community where dogs and their owners feel welcome and supported. I encourage businesses across the county to get involved. Let's make Wiltshire a truly dog-friendly place."

Businesses can sign up for free, gaining extra visibility among dog owners looking for welcoming places to visit. For residents, it’s a handy way to plan walks, trips, or coffee stops knowing their pets are invited too.
