Bath Cats and Dogs Home is calling on dog lovers to take part in its annual Wag Walk charity challenge on Sunday 28th September, with the aim of raising £8,000 to support the care of rescue animals.

One of the biggest annual dog walks in Bath, the event welcomes all dogs, their owners, friends, and families. More than 100 dogs took part in last year’s walk, and organisers hope to beat that record this year.

The charity rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes over 700 cats and dogs each year from Bath and North East Somerset, as well as parts of Somerset and Wiltshire.

Starting from the rescue centre in Claverton, participants can choose between two scenic routes: a two-mile flat walk or a more challenging five-mile route along the National Trust Bath Skyline. Every canine entrant will receive a stylish ‘Wag Walk’ bandana to wear during the walk and take home as a keepsake.

The event finishes back at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, where walkers can enjoy refreshments, activities, and dog-friendly goodie bags.

Registration costs £15 for the first dog and £5 for additional dogs. All entrants will receive a fundraising pack, with top fundraisers earning special prizes. Every pound raised will help care for vulnerable animals — £50, for example, keeps a kennel open and ready for a lost or abandoned dog.

Katy Goodship, Fundraiser at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, said: “The Wag Walk is a brilliant day out for our canine friends and anyone who loves animals or walking. Our aim is for all rescue dogs to have a happy future with a loving family of their own, so if you’re looking for a new pet please consider adopting from us. Every step of their rehabilitation process relies on donations from our wonderful community, so please join us at the Wag Walk in late September.”

Long-time volunteer Andrea Parkes added: “I’ve volunteered at the Wag Walk many times and it is always a fabulous event which walkers, dogs, and their owners absolutely love. There is something for every age and ability, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for adopters to return and show their dog’s progress. What a great way to help raise funds for the charity while enjoying the Bath countryside.”
