Wiltshire Council is reminding households to check their waste and recycling calendars ahead of the Christmas period, with changes to collection dates taking place across the county.
There will be no waste or recycling collections between Christmas Eve and Monday 29th December. Revised dates are now available on the council’s online collection calendar, and residents are being urged to double-check their schedule to avoid missed collections.
Garden waste rounds will pause for two weeks from 22nd December to 2nd January, resuming in early January. Updated dates are listed on each household’s online calendar.
Cllr Paul Sample JP, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste, thanked crews for their “year-round hard work” and encouraged residents to support smooth operations over the festive break. “Please check your collection calendar for any changes and help us keep Wiltshire clean and tidy over the holidays,” he said.
Local recycling centres will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and remain shut on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. All other days will operate as normal.
The council is also sharing tips to help households cut down on Christmas waste:
-
Gift bags: Paper and card bags can go in the blue-lidded bin; reusable bags can be saved for next year.
-
Packaging: Keep plastic bags and polystyrene out of recycling.
-
Keep it dry: Wet cardboard and paper cannot be recycled.
-
Christmas trees: Leave your tree beside your garden waste bin on your first January collection.
-
Electricals: Small items (shoebox-sized or smaller) can be left in a carrier bag next to the blue-lidded bin. Take larger items to your local HRC.
-
Batteries: Never put batteries in any bin. Place them in a clear, sealed bag on top of the blue-lidded bin.
Residents can check what can be recycled at home by visiting the council’s Household Recycling page.
