A baby's Halloween costume sold via Amazon is being urgently recalled due to a serious chemical risk.

The Maeau baby girl costume consists of a black baby grow outfit with a pumpkin on the front and an orange tutu, it also includes a headband with fabric flowers and orange shoes with tie up ribbons.

The outfit has been removed from Amazon online market place following the recall which states that 'the product presents a serious chemical risk as the plasticised material on the bottom of the shoes contains bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in excess of the maximum specified limit'.

Phthalates can potentially harm children’s health either via cancer or non-cancer effects and may cause the child to have long term health implications. Additionally, the bag thickness on the flexible plastic bag used for packaging was measured to be less than the minimum 0.038mm specified. The bag therefore poses a potential asphyxiation hazard. Some of the required markings were not present.

The product does not meet the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008 or the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

If you have bought the product, please contact your supplier for further advice and refund status.
