Residents interested in learning more about beekeeping are being invited to explore a programme of courses taking place next year through the Kennet & District Beekeepers Association (KBKA).
For many, the idea of keeping bees begins as a quiet fascination - watching honeybees at work in the garden, sampling local honey, or becoming more aware of the vital role pollinators play in the environment. For those ready to turn that interest into practical knowledge, KBKA is offering a comprehensive programme of beekeeping courses in 2026 designed to support learners from their first steps through to confident, informed practice.

At the heart of the programme is Introduction to Beekeeping, offered in several formats to suit different lifestyles and learning preferences.
The extended evening course provides a steady route into beekeeping, with six theory sessions held on Thursday evenings at Bishops Cannings Village Hall from 26th February to 2nd April, between 7pm and 9pm. Practical instruction begins in late April, starting with sessions reserved for beginners before expanding to regular opportunities at the club apiary on alternate Saturday afternoons throughout the spring and summer, weather permitting.
For those who prefer a more intensive approach, two further Introduction to Beekeeping courses condense the same material into a single weekend. These will run on 23–24 May and 27–28 June, with theory sessions in the mornings followed by practical work in the afternoons. Organisers say this format has proven popular with those unable to attend weekday sessions or those keen to immerse themselves quickly in the subject.
KBKA also continues to support developing beekeepers through its Basic Study Group, aimed at members working towards assessment. Online theory sessions will take place via Google Meets on Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm on 11th March, 25th March, 8th April and 22nd April. Practical sessions and a mock assessment will be announced in due course.
Organisers say the training is delivered by experienced beekeepers and places a strong emphasis on community, offering structured learning, hands-on experience in a working apiary, and support from the association.
With places limited and demand consistently high, early booking is advised. Full details and booking information are available via the Kennet & District Beekeepers Association website.
For anyone considering beekeeping in 2026, the programme offers a practical and well-supported way to begin.
