Swindon Theatres have announced the return of their annual Summer Youth Project, with this year’s young performers bringing the hit musical Little Shop of Horrors to the Wyvern Theatre stage.
Applications are now open, with auditions taking place on Sunday 26th April 2026 at the Wyvern Theatre. The two-week project will run from Sunday 2nd to Saturday 15th August, culminating in five performances of the full-scale production.

Set on the gritty streets of Skid Row, Little Shop of Horrors follows shy florist Seymour as he discovers a mysterious plant that promises fame, fortune and love – while harbouring a dangerous appetite of its own. The show features a rock-and-roll score by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, including well-known numbers such as Suddenly, Seymour, Dentist! and Feed Me (Git It!).
Creative Learning Manager Oli Webb said the project continues to play a vital role in nurturing young talent across the town. “The Summer Youth Project is an incredible thing. Over the past 30 years we’ve had West End stars, teachers and stage managers come through the project in all sorts of roles. It’s a real privilege to be part of something with such a vibrant history and strong community ethos,” he said.
He added: “Swindon is often maligned, its young people especially, but what I see during those two weeks is an incredible work ethic – from primary school age right through to university – all working together to achieve a professional standard show.”
The Summer Youth Project began in 1994 with a production of Bugsy Malone and was among the first community theatre initiatives of its kind in the area. It has since become an annual tradition, involving thousands of young people over the years.
Up to 200 participants aged 9 to 21 will have the opportunity to work in a professional theatre environment, supported by an experienced creative team including a director, choreographer, musical director, live musicians and technical staff.
This year’s project is sponsored by Coatstone Surfacing Ltd, a family-run business specialising in asphalt and resin surfacing.
