One of Wiltshire’s most beloved landmarks is inviting families, nature lovers, and culture seekers to experience “Bowood's Great Summer Adventure” as Bowood Estate launches its 2025 summer events programme.

Set in 100 acres of landscaped parkland, the 250-year-old estate is marking 50 years since the House and Gardens first opened to the public with a rich variety of outdoor experiences designed to reconnect visitors with the natural world, local history, and world-class culture.

“In the 50th year of the House and Gardens being open to the public, it’s important to us that we continue to enable our guests to connect with the beauty of the natural world, be fascinated by the history that can be discovered, and to make new memories in this special place." said Lord Kerry, 11th generation custodian of the estate. "My focus is to ensure that every guest has an excellent visit to Bowood, and that the experience we offer is educational, enjoyable, and entertaining.”

Global Photography, Local Impact

Among the summer highlights is the internationally acclaimed Earth Photo exhibition, which lands at Bowood’s Arboretum from 23rd July to 1st September. Curated by the Royal Geographical Society and Forestry England, the outdoor exhibit uses powerful imagery to spotlight pressing environmental issues—from Greenland’s melting ice caps to Morocco’s disappearing oases. Admission is included with a standard day ticket.

Nature-Focused Family Fun

Young adventurers can get hands-on with nature during a series of activities run in partnership with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, from 2nd–10th August. Children can try bug hunts, bark rubbing, butterfly counting and more, all designed to raise awareness of biodiversity and conservation efforts. These activities are also included in regular admission.

For more outdoor action, Bowood welcomes back Mud & Guts, a popular bushcraft company running weekly Thursday sessions from 31st July to 28th August. Aimed at children aged 6–10, the programme includes den-building, fire-lighting, rope swinging and survival skills. Tickets are £21.50 per child and sold separately from general entry.

Tree-climbing adventures also return courtesy of The Great Big Tree Climbing Company. Suitable for children aged 6+ and thrill-seeking adults, supervised climbs are scheduled for 29–30th July and 29–30th August, with tickets priced at £30 per participant.

Crafts, Culture, and Open-Air Theatre

Families can take a creative break with daily arts and crafts at The Bothy, open every afternoon from 26th July to 31th August, all included with a day ticket.

Literature fans are in for a treat as Bowood celebrates Jane Austen’s 250th birthday with an open-air theatre performance of Emma on 2nd August, presented by This is My Theatre. Later in the month, on 15th August, The Duke's Theatre Company brings a contemporary twist to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Tickets for both performances start at £15 and must be booked in advance.

Food, Drink, and Live Jazz

Bowood is also offering culinary and musical delights throughout the summer. On 10th July, the Shelburne Restaurant hosts a Caribbean-inspired BBQ night featuring grilled favourites, a complimentary rum punch, and live summer tunes. Tickets are £20 per person.

Gin lovers can join a special Honey & Rose Infused Gin afternoon event on 6th July, including live distillation demos, tastings, and a gin-themed afternoon tea. Tickets are £44, with booking required and attendees aged 18+.

For a more classic British experience, the Bowood Hotel will host two Jazz Afternoon Teas on 22nd June and 3rd August, with vintage vocalist Kitty Mazinsky performing live. Guests can enjoy finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and delicate pastries for £42 per person.
