Saint Edmund’s Catholic Primary School in Calne has been praised for its strong leadership, inclusive culture and “family community” following its latest inspection.
The Catholic Schools Inspectorate rated the school as Good across all areas, including pupil outcomes, provision and leadership. Inspectors found that Saint Edmund’s fosters a “strong family community, where all are cared for and valued, especially those most vulnerable”, and said pupils demonstrate “a sense of belonging and being valued and welcome everyone with a smile.”
Leadership at the school was also highlighted, with inspectors noting “a clear focus, and capacity for rapid improvement” under the executive head and dedicated governing body. Staff were described as committed, supportive of one another, and “good role models” for pupils. Inspectors also praised the good behaviour of children throughout the school.
Helen Biles-Wood, Executive Headteacher of Saint Edmund’s, said she was pleased that inspectors had recognised the school’s ongoing progress.
“We’re on a journey of improvement at St Edmund’s, and I’m very proud that the inspectors have noted so many positive aspects of life at our school.
“We’re very proud of our inclusive culture, which ensures that every pupil feels welcomed into school, and that they belong here.
“Our staff work hard to support all our pupils and provide a role model example for the children, and I’m proud of all the work we’re putting in to make St Edmund’s a school which provides the most comprehensive, caring education in the area.”
Applications for pupils to join Saint Edmund’s from September 2026 are open until 15th January.
