Pupils at Saint Edmund’s Catholic Primary School in Calne have marked the run-up to Christmas with a series of performances, fundraising events and visits into the local community.

Children took to the stage for the school’s Christmas nativity, performing to a packed hall as families gathered to watch the traditional retelling of the Christmas story.

Beyond the school gates, pupils were also involved in community activities. The school choir visited The Firs care home to sing to residents, while children and families joined Calne’s annual Lantern Parade.

Festive activities continued in school, with pupils wearing Christmas jumpers for a seasonal lunch and taking part in a Christmas disco. Parents and carers were invited to an after-school Christmas event organised by the Friends of Saint Edmund’s, which included carol singing and special appearances from Father Christmas and Elsa from Frozen.

The school’s Christmas programme finished with the Saint Edmund’s Reindeer Run on Thursday, 18th December, raising funds for Dorothy House.

Helen Biles-Wood, executive headteacher at the school, said the season had been an opportunity for pupils to celebrate together while supporting the wider community. “It’s been a time of joy and reflection,” she said. “From performing in the nativity to singing in the community, the children have embraced the spirit of Christmas in a way that reflects both our faith and the fun of school life.”

Helen Taylor, chief executive of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, said the events showed how schools within the trust place an emphasis on community as well as learning.
