Chippenham Sector Neighbourhood officers conducted a metal detecting knife arch operation at Kingsbury Green Academy this morning.

The proactive initiative was carried out in partnership with the school's safeguarding department as part of Operation Sceptre, a national week of action aimed at raising awareness about the dangers and consequences of carrying knives.

Police say that the operation was pre-planned and not triggered by any specific concerns or intelligence suggesting students were carrying knives at Kingsbury Green Academy.

Fortunately, no knives were discovered during the operation at Kingsbury Green Academy. Similar operations are being conducted across various schools in Swindon and Wiltshire throughout the week as part of Operation Sceptre.

The initiative aims to educate students about the devastating impact of knife crime and deter them from carrying weapons.

One student contacted us to say they felt the operation could have been improved if all students were made to walk through the arch rather than making it optional. "If there was a problem within the school - which I am sure there isn't, this wouldn't have made them feel any safer. But hopefully, it gave the students something to think about"
