St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School has welcomed a new executive head this term with the appointment of Helen Biles Wood. She joins the Calne school from within the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust (DCET), bringing extensive leadership experience across Somerset and Wiltshire.
Helen previously worked with St Louis School in Frome, another DCET member, which was rated Good in all areas by Ofsted in January 2025. She now takes on the role at St Edmund’s to support the school’s focus on high quality education and enriching pupil experiences.
Her vision is rooted in recognising the unique qualities of every child and helping them develop their talents. She is committed to nurturing confident, responsible young people with strong social and moral values and believes all children should feel empowered to reach their full potential.
Parents seeking a place for September 2026 are invited to meet Helen at the school’s open day on 4th December at 9.30am. Bookings can be made by calling 01249 813 821, and tours can also be arranged at other times.
Speaking about her new role, Mrs Biles Wood said: "I am thrilled to join St Edmund’s and work alongside such a dedicated team. Every child has something extraordinary to offer, and I want to help them discover their strengths, be inspired by their learning, and leave us ready to make a positive difference in the world."
Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added: "We are delighted to welcome Helen Biles Wood to St Edmund’s. Her experience, vision and commitment to nurturing every child will be invaluable in guiding the school forward. Helen’s leadership will ensure that St Edmund’s continues to inspire pupils to achieve their best and grow into confident, responsible citizens."
St Edmund’s aims to provide children with a wide range of happy and meaningful memories through engaging and exciting experiences supported by a comprehensive curriculum.
DCET is a family of thirteen Catholic schools in the South West that share a commitment to an all-round education rooted in Christian values, delivered in a nurturing environment where children can flourish and become lifelong learners.
