Wiltshire Council has announced plans to ban right-hand turns from the A4 Curzon Street into the western entrance of The Springfields Academy in Calne.

The proposed traffic order is designed to improve safety and reduce congestion at peak times. The council has noted that vehicles - particularly taxis - making right turns into the school’s access road have been causing delays along the busy stretch of the A4.

If approved, the order will mean drivers will no longer be able to turn right into the school entrance. Instead, they will need to use alternative routes. The council says the change is intended to “avoid danger to persons or other traffic” and to “prevent the likelihood of such danger arising.”

Details of the plan, along with supporting documents, can be viewed at County Hall in Trowbridge or at Calne Library until 3rd November 2025. They are also available online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/troconsultations.

Residents and road users are invited to share their views on the proposal. Comments should be submitted in writing, by email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
