The White Horse Inn in Compton Bassett, a well-known and much-loved spot for villagers and visitors from Calne, has announced it will close at the end of this month.

The pub, which sits at the heart of the village and has long been a popular destination for Sunday lunches, celebrations and countryside walks, will serve its final customers on Saturday, 29th November.

In a statement shared with customers, the team said they were proud of what had been created at the White Horse and grateful to everyone who had supported the pub over the years.

“Our wonderful team has been committed to creating a beautiful experience here,” the statement said. “We’ve had some fantastic times and feel privileged to have been a part of fond memories for so many.

“We would like to thank all our hard-working staff, past and present; our loyal customers and friends, old and new; and the local community who have been supportive of the pub.”

The team also confirmed that their planned Christmas fair will no longer go ahead, but that they intend to keep trading until the final day, encouraging customers to come in and make the most of the remaining weeks.

The building’s future has not yet been confirmed. However one resident informed us that the pub is due to be refurbished as the leasehold has been taken on by Chickpea pubs with a reopening scheduled for Autumn 2026.
