Officers from the Special Constabulary conducted a road safety checkpoint last Thursday evening (4th December), stopping drivers across the neighbourhood policing area as part of an ongoing campaign to improve safety on local roads.
Over the course of the operation, 24 vehicles were stopped. Six drivers voluntarily provided a breath sample. One motorist was issued with a Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme notice after officers found unsafe tyres, requiring the fault to be fixed without issuing points or a fine.
A vehicle was also seized after officers discovered the driver had no licence and no insurance, while another motorist was reported for careless driving. Two drivers received words of advice for speeding and five were spoken to regarding minor lighting offences.
The operation was delivered in partnership with Special Constables, the Specials Drones Team and the Specials Road Safety Team, who said the checkpoint formed part of their year-round commitment to keeping the area’s roads safe.
