JUST when you thought it was safe to head toward Chippenham again, the traffic lights at Chilvester Hill will be making an unwelcome return in the coming weeks.

The lights at the construction site on Chilvester Hill have been causing traffic delays throughout the summer with some motorists reporting a travel time of up to 40 minutes between Calne and Chippenham.

Finally at the end of August the lights were removed and everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but brace yourselves, because they're coming back again soon.

When the road was re-opened, some motorists reported back that the new road surface was of poor quality. Wiltshire Council Highways Team have been out to inspect the problem and have found it to be defective. Consequently, they have asked the surfacing contractor to return to heat the area of tarmac and recompact it.

A date is yet to be confirmed for these works to take place.  However, from tomorrow - 11th September until 13th September delays are likely along the A4 again as two-way traffic signals will be in place on New Road just after the Norley Lane turning. This is for Wessex Water repair works.
