Residents in the Chilvester & Abberd ward headed to the polls yesterday, Thursday 20th November, to choose a new representative for Calne Town Council, following the resignation of Jackie Bennett.

The by-election attracted two candidates - Liberal Democrat Thomas Taylor and Paul Logan for Reform UK.

Tom Taylor was declared the winner with 520 votes to Paul Logan's 313.

Taylor, an RAF veteran and long-standing community volunteer, is well known locally for his hands-on approach. He regularly takes part in litter-picking sessions, clears footpaths and raises concerns about fly-tipping. He has also worked with the local Liberal Democrat team on issues surrounding the Calne Healthcare Centre and access to healthcare services in the town.

Outside public life, Taylor is a husband, grandfather to three girls, and a recipient of the Royal Victorian Medal, awarded by the late Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his RAF service.

He now joins Calne Town Council with a commitment to continue his practical, community-focused work on behalf of residents across the ward.
