Art trails have gained in popularity over recent years, hares, bears, cows and rockets have been brightening up towns across the UK giving visitors and residents a chance to follow the trails and see how many 'exhibits' they can find.

This summer, Calne will be having a mini version of these trails with a 'Pig Parade'.

2024 marks the 50th Calne Music and Arts Festival and is also 40 years since the demolition of the Harris Factory and to celebrate the occasion, Calne Music and Arts Festival organisers are giving residents the opportunity to be part of a very special Calne Pig Parade.

Here is how to get involved and be part of the celebrations - buy a piglet-sized papier mache pig and decorate it however you wish - display your pig with pride in your window - take a photo and post on social media with the hashtag #calnepigparade or if you prefer you can email your picture.

If you would like to take part but don't want to purchase a 3-D piglet, you can download a template and decorate a paper version to display.

All entries will create a summer Pig Parade trail around Calne town, so there's no time to lose.

At the end of August, the Calne Music & Arts Festival Pigs team will select winning designs to go on display at the Heritage Centre for an exhibition celebrating 50 years of the Festival.

The Festival at 50 Exhibition will be on the whole of October at the Heritage Centre. 50 of the pig sculptures will be on display as well as winning designs on paper, alongside a retrospective of the Calne Music & Arts Festival.

The piglets will be available to buy from the Heritage Centre and Bank House from 29th June - £15 each.  Community groups and schools will have free access to a pig to be decorated. The pigs will also be on sale from the Calne Music & Arts Festival stall at the Carnival on the 29th June you will find the stall on the lawn in front of The Wharf.

The Pig Parade is generously supported by Calne Town Council and Wessington Cabins.
